£50 difference

Hi, insurance renewal time came again. What is it with the insurance companies - Direct Line in actuality. To test the waters I did a quote several days ago and cos they would not accept BONGO I entered the info for a Ford Freda. Result £173. However 'coz I have a mazda quote over phone today £350. ! Asked for explanation for price differential. "Its a different car". They said. Still negotiated them down to £265. I took a named driver off and saved £50 over what I paid last year.
If I ever have to replace my Bongo I will seriously consider a Freda with savings like that to be had. I suppose fewer Fredas get nicked and that accounts for the difference!

Agree with you 100% fcl - the insurance industry is shambolic when it comes to renewing Bongo insurance. To keep my premium acceptable with 2gether i had to join some club for campervans, accept severe mileage limit and it turns out i don't even have 3rd party cover on other cars. Why is it all so difficult: been driving since 1968 and have no accidents (ever) or convictions (since 1988). Grrrrrrrr

Fans of Martin Lewis will know that quotes vary depending on how far in advance you get them, the optimum if I remember correctly being 28 days.

Yes. I got quote 5 days early and as I stated sought some idea of the cost. Hence the subterfuge of stating Ford instead of Mazda. Tried 3 days later and was told to wait the quotation letter. So I didn't, phoned them one month prior to renewal date. I don't think I have been screwed But.....Why do I feel that I have just been dealing with less desirable elements. This ain't like it should be when seeking a legal requirement to drive.Still since My three showers I am now feeling cleaner!

How about £310 extra for the same vehicle etc?!!! Quote from Lifesure for Bongo 4000miles pa £542......or a renewal with 2Gether for £240.

Insurance companies are the pits.

Yes I heard an uncoverted van seems to attract higher premiums; just got mine insured for £168 as they knocked off more money for no claims or convictions in last 5 years. Well pleased as a saving of £70 over last year.
