Bongo Fury

Hello,
Very poor performance from 2.5td today, struggling up M1 hills at 60mph, lots of noise, not much action. The pipe arrowed in the photo is flapping around - it's attached to the fuel pump area but the other end is flapping. Is it important?

The thin pipe from top right sloping down is a vacuum advance pipe so it might well have an impact on performance, it connects from the air intake to the top of the fuel pump see this diagram its tubing 93-4104 length 260mm above the "Z" link as best as I can make out, Im sure Ady or one of those more familiar with the diesel will confirm if that's right or not! http://lushprojects.com/bongopartsmk2/c ... mgno=.html

The pipe had cracked off from the air intake. Got a new pipe and fitted fine. All good I thought then noticed diesel dripping from underneath the van. Looked in the engine bay and I can see it dripping from the bottom of the fuel pump. Please see photo for area. I have tried tightening the bolts attaching the dome like bit to the right of it but not sure if that is the solution.

Any ideas? Thanks.

Mine needed new seals both sides to fix the leak. Can be DIYed with pump in place if you can get hands in there but its tricky and springs ans stuff can fall out if not v careful. I'd let a garage familiar with Bongos do it. My specialist (Adrian at JapanDirect in Bury - he's excellent) preferred to remove the pump (noting position for timing prior to removal) to do trickier/inboard one. That was 10 years ago, so they've lasted!

FYI: after replacing the broken pipe performance is now fantastic! Easily gets up the hills and can feel the boost when it kicks in. Nice.

I will.monitor the diesel leak but, oddly, no drips after a 30 mile drive today.

Great news. I lived with my drips for a year before getting seals done. Its possible to leave a bowl with rag in it sat on the engine undertray. It catches the drips and never gets blown away. Change rag at intervals. A scavenger fan over-ride switch took care of fumes in the cab while stationary!

This is very bizarre, but I'm now convinced the drips have stopped. It was really coming out at quite a rate when I replaced that pipe, but I have checked after every journey since and nothing. Degreased the area today to clear the smell and fingers crossed.

A self-repairing car - the Japanese really are pure genius!
