Glowplug light flashing, relays

Post by jw327793 » Wed Aug 15, 2018 5:26 pm

1999 Diesel 2.5.
I've had a problem with the glowplug light flashing as soon as the engine warms up. I posted about the problem a few weeks ago but have now tested the four relays under the driver's seat using the post from Dmitry about this problem. I think that one is open circuit so not working, the others are about 40ohms. I've put the photos onto google photos and checked that it is accessible this time. Have I checked the correct relays and is the problem the one that has failed? How difficult and expensive is it to replace? Oddly one of them is made by Mitsubishi. Any advice welcome.
Thanks

Try removing the failed one and tapping it hard on a flat surface or similar. They can stick. It is just a Lecky switch that allows vac through. Put 12 volts to it and earth from a battery to test.
Most are Mitzi parts and are fitted to most Mazda's of that age and also other cars around the same period, Mitzi 4wheel drives etc.
Scrap yard trip or Mazda dealers.
Make sure you get the correct Lecky fitting- plug as there are several layouts.
Some of the solenoids only work when the temp is at a certain temp. Two should be cold start ones so won't be on when warmed up. The other two should be for the egr so will be on when it's warmed up so you tests maybe inaccurate. Test with a independent 12v supply as above.

Thanks. How do you remove the solenoid/relay from the holder? Is it just a case of levering it out or is there a technique?

They usually have a plastic base plate mount, with a bit of persuasion it lifts up at one end and slides out of the metal base.
Watch the Stubbs don't break off when you remove the pipework.
