Bongo Fury

Just completed trip from Franche-compte to isle of man to salisbury to stourport to edinburgh to isle of skye and back to Franche-comte,
With conversion tintop bike rack roof rails and quite a bit of gear inside, 31mpg mostly motorways but did do alot of back roads round scotland. Quite pleased overall

Hi bob, hope the rest of the bash went well and it was really nice to meet you and the missus, hope i didnt kill your ears with "its a kind of magic" anyhoo, I was fair chuffed with that and used the sat nav to good effect by finding supermarket fuel stations along most of the route.
Incidently the cheapest place we got fuel was on the isle of wight at 1.13 per litre. But to be honest i'll not be going there again as its not really wild camping friendly, and you have to pay for parking in most places.

Just had 4 days away with days out and 'wild camping' on the North Norfolk and Suffolk coasts (did about 500 odd miles)...great weather too. Two of us in a converted van, Bongo returned as always circa 30mpg. Got back midday today as the rain set in for the Bank Holiday

Actually got the receipts out and re-did the calcs, got 32.8mpg. Found that 2500rpm at roughly 56mph was the sweetspot.

Good for a petrol, I doubt I get that from my 2.0 petrol car.

My car is a 1.6 Hdi 6 speed all the bells and flutes,£20 a year road tax 52 MPG around town 70 MPG on a clear run, and it goes like a bat out of hell.

Oh dear. No wild camping for you then m'lad (short of the dreaded trowel option - now that IS uncivilised)

Well if you are talking about camping , I would use my Motorhome it has all the luxuries that one would require. I mainly use the bongo as a van for carting stuff about. and the car for social events and going to the Bookies.

Gosh! The Bongo is all three for me

There is much to be said in terms of MPG for a modern computerised engine and a lightweight car.

My car is very heavy, has a SOHC engine design, is 3 speed auto 21 years old. Efficient it is not
but has been very reliable and zero rust so I am kind of happy. The 30MPG bit is less satisfying
but it keeps the town miles off the Bongo components. The Bongo only does easy on the drive train
miles.
