Bongo Fury

Hi Guys,
I am new to the Bongo world and would like to get a bit of advise about 4wd bongos' tyre sizes.
For about a year now I have 2wd Bongo running with 225/50/R17
Soon I am going to move to a very snowy country where 4wd is a must. This is the reason I bought one 4wd

Because the alloy wheels look much better I would like to move them from the 2wd to the 4wd bongo.
As I read Mazda/Ford recommends:
Front 195/70/R15
Rear: 215/65/R15
Diameter Front=653mm Rear=660mm ratio=1,2%
Revs/km Front=487mm Rear=482mm ratio= -5


If I move to these sizes:
Front 225/50/R17
Rear: 235/50/R17
Diameter Front=658mm Rear=668mm ratio=1,5%
Revs/km Front=485mm Rear=478mm ratio= -7

I am going to keep almost the same ratio front/rear ~ diff: +0.3%

I assume /it is my first 4x4/ that this is acceptable and the transfer box/VC/ will be happy with these digits.

Why not fit the same size all round?

Lots of peeps do that, but make sure the load rating is high enough, 96 min for rear, 92 for front. Higher figures are fine. Also make sure the wheels are strong enough for the weight of the Bongo.

And make sure you contact ( if you have not already done so ) your Insurance Provider for modification Cover.

We also have a 4wd Bongo on 17" alloys and go off road a lot.
We use 225 55 R17 Michelin Latitude Cross tyres.
I did loads of research before fitting these and highly recommend them. They are half off road / half road tread and grip very well on wet grass and in mud. I expect they're good in snow but haven't tried this yet. Not noisy on motorways either. I paid £450 including fitting.
I checkled your calculations and agree - 1.5% difference in the circumference. I think this is a bit high but don't know so

Our Bongo is a 2WD on Michelin summers, but on my Suzuki 4x4 I use Yokohama W-drive which perform well on and off road. Being SUV tyres the load rating is quite high. Worth a look.

The Russians like to use v deep walled tyres. They look great on Bongos, increase ground clearance a bit and maybe they are also able to use tricks like lowering tyre pressure for extra traction (only helps i believe in certain snow conditions but...). Probably don't improve high speed stability though, at a guess.
