Squealing noise

Hi Folks

Took the Bongo out for its first drive since Xmas yesterday and after a few minutes noticed a squealing noise at about 1500 rpm which stopped if i decelerated or lasted a few seconds or until gear changed up. Didn’t occur at higher revs or if reving i’m neutral.

Sounds a bit like when warer pump needs replacing but not constant so not sure it can be that.

2.5 diesel automatic - checked transmission fluid and level is fine.

Any ideas where to start investigations?

Thanks

Possibly the alternator belt slipping, the battery will have needed a good bit of charging after sitting a while.

Could be worth charging the battery, see if belts loose, a light spray of water onto the belts can sometimes diagnose this.

A small plant sprayer, not the hose.

Others will likely have some thoughts.

It could also be a sheered stud on the exhaust manifold gasket, which is under the passenger seat. Beware! may be very hot.

I had a nightmare sorting a squealing noise once on mine. Drove to Falmouth & back from Eastbourne with it driving me mad. Would stop for a while then start again. Put it into a garage down there but nothing could be found, never did find out if they ever experienced it though. I found it after I got back. The front diff coupling seal is in two parts, the seal itself & the dust/crap protector. Of course they should be fixed together but my dust protector was spinning intermittently with the flange and as the two parts are made of metal they made the noise. It was a 30sec job to cure, I just peened over lip the dust shield sits in & job done!

Probably not you issue but might help someone.

see if the noise alters when if you put on the aircon, could be aircon clutch.

Does the squealing noise only happen when the vehicle is in Drive?

Didn’t occur at higher revs or if reving i’m neutral.
