The Side lights, Dash lights are all switched by the relay on the nearside front bumper second from rear and common fuses.
The Brake lights and Fog lights are all from separate circuits as well.
Is there any other history, any work done recently, did they all go together or have you only just spotted that they aren't working, what year of vehicle is it ?
More information on fuses and lamps is available on the Wiring Manuals page here see the Tab for fuses and Problems;

I think my 3yr old son has been playing with the indicator stock and this is the problem. Does anyone know how to open it up.I can see a small panel on the rear of it with a small hole .Just to be clear I am trying to open the end with the sidelight headlight selector.

Hi Geoff the relay seems ok when I change the side light fuse under the bonnet they work for a few seconds and I can hear the relay click .The van is a 98 2.5d .There has been no work carried out lately it has been running great for a long time.They all went at the same time.I noticed dash first then side lights when I opened door and no buzzer so I then checked the rest and had no brake lights
. My 3yr old was left in the van for 5 min and when I came back he was playing with the controls so now thinking it might be stock.

I can't think how the brake light can be associated with the a problem with the light stalk to be honest. I assume the engine is running OK since the problem developed?

When you say the sidelights work for a few seconds after changing the fuse, do you mean the fuse was blown and has blown after a few seconds again?

Depends what you calling an Earth problem! Most Earth problems are bad connections caused by rust and corrosion, that won't be your problem if its blowing a fuse! More likely a blown lamp which is shorting out or a damaged wiring loom and the earth is making contact with the +12v supply.
