my battery is over charging

hi all hope someone can help me checked the battery with the engine running and i am getting 18 volt at the battery. searched the forum and it should be 14volts but nothing about this problem

Make doubly certain that your test voltmeter is reading correctly. If it is a digital one, just because it indicates 18.378945 volts doesn't mean it is accurate.
Do your lights and indicators seem bright?
Do the various electric motors seem to run too fast?
The battery will get very warm, gas excessively and boil dry if it is being charged for a long time at 18V.

hi pippin shal try another voltmeter just incase.
my lights dont look any brighter and motors dont sound or look any faster
shal check the battery cells in daylight and let everyone know fingers crossed

If your battery voltage is 18 volts I would think that your filement lamps
would be extremely dark, they wouldn't last more than 5 or 10 minutes.

thanks both pippin u hit it on the head the meter has had it also checked the battery cells just incase and all is fine thanks again jgk
