Bongo Fury

Good morning all
I have a 95 2.5 TD bus
I'm going to be doing an oil change and flush in the next week or two .
I've been using 10w 40 but I've heard of some people using 5w30 for a bit more performance and economy apparently .
What are people's views on this change ?

The original specification called for 5W/30 for the cooler temperatures down to -30°C to +10°C, 10W/30 for -15°C to +40°C so can't see why not.

For motocross bikes you go a little heavier on oil for a used engine than you would a new engine, the thinking being that the thinner oil is better at coping with the tight tolerances in a new engine where as thicker is better at filling the gaps once wear sets in.
Don't know if this philosophy would apply to Bongo's - you tend not to get 2.5 litre diesel turbo motocross bikes (or V6's come to that)

I use 5w30 when i can get it. My reasoning is i do (or was until i retired!) short trips in a cool climate so on balance i might have less energy/mpg sapping engine friction and quicker /easier oil circulation whilst i'd rarely have need of the higher viscosity at higher engine temps. But its all a bit of a trade off and i suspect either will do perfectly well.

Thanks for the replies gents , I think I'll go with the 5w30 and see how it fairs .
It's not due for the next few weeks so I have some time to gather the bits
