Dubrovnik via Bosnia

Hi,

We are planning to head to Croatia next month. Although we have taken our Bongo there before, we didn't go as far south as Dubrovnik. On this trip we'd like to head further down the coast. The most direct route looks to be via the Neum Corridor in Bosnia (approx 6 miles), the alternative is a ferry over to the Peljesac peninsula. I've checked with my insurance company and they won't cover Bosnia. I've heard you can buy 3rd party insurance on some of the border crossings, but not all.

Has anyone made this trip? Does anyone have any experience of buying insurance at the border for the Bosnian part of the journey?

Cheers

Looks like not from Neum but nearby
Have you seen this info. from Gov? Under road travel section.

https://www.gov.uk/foreign-travel-advic ... d-security

Drove through in 1981, when part of Yugoslavia, in an old boy racer, blacked out Escort with fat tyres on the back. Officially dumped car in Athens and headed on to Egypt as next port of call on trip to Australia. Great fun.

Hi Glenda,

Thanks for the info. Yes, I'd seen that page. Just wasn't sure about the actual process when you got to the crossing. Where you park, what you need, how much it costs, how long the process takes etc. It worries me that the page states "you should be able to buy insurance at the Doljani border crossing". Doesn't sound very convincing!

Cheers

Makes the trip all the more interesting!

In 1981 we'd have either had insurance from the UK for Jugoslavia or not bothered as we were young, stupid and carefree, so can't help now.
In Morocco you get insurance before leaving the ferry ports from little cabins and going into Turkey there is a broker at the border and you cannot enter without proof of insurance.

You could ring the Embassy or google to find blogs about such a trip.

I see your dilemma now. I'd risk running the 15k corridor without insurance.

Well I can't say anything about the problem itself, but I think I would also go for it without insurance :D . Just like that. Back in 2013 I drove a rental car along the coast in Croatia and Montenegro. The views are just gorgeous there! One day I would like to travel all the way by car (from Germany). In Croatia we stayed in a beautiful villa, it was quite cheap in 2013, not sure how it is now. Here is the picture taken from the rooftop of our villa in Croatia
