Bongo Fury

Hi everybody. I've got an issue with Betsy. There is a light clunking sound coming from what appears to be the front right wheel. It is only a single clunk and only happens once per pedal press. Any speed over approximately 30 mph and reasonable pressure applied to the pedal will cause it. If I brake very slowly from any speed, it doesn't happen. It isn't a loud hard clunk. It sounds quite light,like something is loose. Just wondering if it's common? Thanks. John

Your (the vehicle ) Clunk could be caused by various things, the main thing is to make sure that it is not a potentially Dangerous Clunk.

It would be advisable to have a Mechanic examine/test the vehicle for the cause of the Clunk.

Agree with Rita, this really needs looking at.

Drop links are a common fail and give a clunk, but usualy when going over a bump rather than braking.

Let's hope it's something simple like that.

is it a clunk, or a light click, if its a click type sound it maybe the brakes, some of the after market brake pads are too small and move slightly when the brake fights the rotation, or maybe someone has left the stainless steel sliders out when doing the pads, these are what the pad slides on so if one is lost/rotted away or something it can allow the pad to click/ rotate forward.

Thanks for the responses guys. I've had the Bongo looked at, but the mechanics have been unable to find the cause. Brakes are as they should be, there isn't any play in arms or attachments. Everything seems fine. It's left me and them scratching our heads.

Seeing as you only get it with firm braking at 30+ it is going to need a reasonable amount of force to find where the movement is.
I remember a past thread on here where somebody was taken through a series of places and angles to lever to help identify a mysterious noise. Unfortunately I can't find it nor recall the contributor. Sorry, not much help unless somebody else remembers it!

P.S. Have some older threads (like 1-4 yrs old) either gone or been lost from the search index? Just wondering, as this is the second time I couldn't find something! Maybe it's me brain

Thanks guys. Sorry for the late response. Phone issues! Again! We've stuck some spring metal above and below the pads, just to see if it would reduce the movement of the pads, even though the movement doesn't seem excessive. The noise still persists. We've been through literally all of the joints from the engine forward. Nothing obvious. All joints seem tight. It's definitely only under braking. 30mph slow acceleration, clink/clunk on braking. Gentle braking, nothing. 50+mph hard braking, nothing. It's driving us mad. I can just about feel it through the wheel, so I'm assuming it's something attached to it in some way.

Does the vehicle have front wheel drive.? Also worthwhile having your mechanic examine the lower suspension arm/wishbone for cracks and corrosion and the antiroll bar bush bracket , front cross member, steering rack fixing bolts .
