Hi folks, I'm still around and have another prob for all you fab experts to suss for me please . Just had ny auto gear box serviced due to noise it made....all well now. But it seems I do gave a leak from under the engine cover. Seems it drips a little overnight after use, unsure if this continues after stopping and starting during the day ?
Told it's definitely diesel fuel by the chap who did my gear box. Any ideas please ?
Thanks everyone
Pam

High chance it's the seals in the injector pump.

Ady has just recommended a company who will refurb your pump, I'll see if I can find the link.

Hi Bob.....good to hear from you love ! Good ' ol Ady....should have thought of him myself ? Fingers crossed you can help me here. It's not desperate...but as I've just replaced the alternator and now had the gear box done, this is a slower burner...but it needs sorting.
My thanks
Pam x

Woo, not cheap.

Let's hope a new set of seals will cure it. [-o<

Wow....yes £600 to buy...then paying for taking out the current one and refit of new one....sounds like it will be very costly. Is my van now worth it ??? I've spent thousands on it in the last year of so ! Do I carry on ? Oh dear ! Is it possible that just replacing the seals will fix it for a while ? If so...can this be done by a qualified mechanic/ garage ?
Suggestions...please !

Mine had a small leak some years ago and the garage replaced just the seals.

Don't know actual cost as it was part of MOT and service, but it can't have been bad.

Might also be worth trying fuel injection specialists near you. =D>

generally pam they leak from the side seals, these can be done with the pump in place if you know a good small handed gynecologist, ian sells the seals for very little money (pence) and i can fit them for you if your passing. is the bottom of the pump just wet with fuel or is it dripping. they usually drip when you rev it then let off the throttle.
sometimes you can get away with just nipping up the 10 mm nuts on the plates that hold the seals in place, but its best to replace the seals. there are several little springs and 1 or sometimes 2 shims in there too that pack the piston , these have been known to drop out or get lost when replacing the seals so if your mechanic does the job warn him to take careful note of what comes out of each side and in what order.

the other thing to consider is if your seals at the side are leaking then the whole thing may need refurbing as the rest of the seals inside are also the same age and the front seal may be leaking causing bad starting issues and poss damage to the timing belt. the best bet if your flush is fit a new pump, george at bongospares has got it down to a fine art, i saw him do one at the bash last year in under 1 hour in the field.

go on pam, you know your worth it. 8)

Adrian at Japandirect in Bury fixed my leaky seals about 9 years ago and they've never leaked since. Could be worth calling him for an opinion and cost estimate.

Firstly, thanks for all the advice I've had from you all esp ady , mike and bob , who always seem to be there for me/ us Bongo lovers. Ady ....no... I didn't sleep with the insurance man  After much asking & thinking , inc local garage, I've gone withe days suggestion and contacted Bongo spares. I am now booked in for next Tuesday for a re furb + a cam belt. Priced at £640 I think it's ok. They will also do a health check on my van for me, as I still have worries re whether the people who did lots of underneath welding for me....did a good job ..or not ?
Enjoy Stourport...if you're going. I might make it there one day !?
