Major Leak of what

Hi All I have not had the Bongo long so forgive me if this sounds daft :oops: I have a major leak but I am not sure what it is.
The Bongo was stationary with engine running and whilst climbing back in I noticed a pool of what I think is Steering Fluid just behind the Drivers door on the floor. It was dripping from a rubber pipe that was attached to a rather rusty looking metal pipe, the other end of this rubber pipe is connected to a large rectangle box in the middle of the Vehicle.
As soon as I switched the engine off the leak appeared to stop. Could someone please confirm if my thoughts could be right or am I miles away. Many thanks in advance.

Gearbox fluid coolant pipes .

Two pipes (flow & return) about five feet long from the gearbox to the bottom of the radiator ..

Temp. fix is to cut out the rusty part of the metal pipe .. and 'splice' some oil proof / hydraulic 'rubber pipe in with jubilee clips ....

Edit: Top up through the gearbox dipstick hole under driver's seat then check level with the engine hot and running.

Cycle through the gears a few times before checking. 8)

Hi Guys have just done the job, I checked the fluid level once pipe was reconneted the level was fine. I then started the Bongo and the fluid did not show at all on the stick. Is there enough or should I see a level of fluid when the engine is running. Thanks again.

Yes there should be clean pink fluid on the stick
Take level reading with engine running , handbrake on etc
Will be over full with out engine running

there is a twist on most of the diesel gearbox dipsticks, i fill to just a tad under the twist with the engine not running as a fairly good guide to the correct level when running, its quite hard to get a good level with the gearbox oil splashing around with the engine running unless the gearbox oil is dirty.
another way is to remove the stick, start the engine so the gearbox oil pump is running, use a black marker pen or chalk to colour the bottom of the stick, then dip in carefully to get a reading.
