I am at a cross road can't go straight on have to turn left or right. My 96 which I have had for 4 years+ I had the wheel arches done (ford transit arches) but they do need doing again. Sills inner/outer need doing all mot work together with a few other bits. The essential bodywork is likely to be about £1200. Having looked at 95/6 bongos offered for sale starting at 8 seater tintop for £3k ish throught to camper conversions to £7k ish. The top endis beyond my budget (butin my dreams lol) my replacement budget would have to be £5k ish (cash) and my Bongo. What advice would you guys give me - I have important trip to Australia end of this year so my outlay here has to be it. Would appreciate any advice!

And it's surprising how much you fall back in love with the old beasts when you spend a few dollars on them :D

my view also. If I had every reason (past maintenance, mechanics feedback etc) to believe that this £1200 will see me through this year at worst, and at best a few more, then I'd stick with the devil I knew!

Have to agree with the others here.

You could end up with all kinds of hidden expense.

Also worth bearing in mind there's petty much no depreciation now, the big overlooked cost of vehicles, so a bit spent on TLC can be justified. 8)

Just sold mine after 4 years of owners ship I sold it for £650 less than I paid for it
Not bad depreciation :D

And actually, provided he can do without it for a bit, i reckon you'd be an excellent person to leave it with for repair work by someone who knows Bongos.

Hmmmm. Could it come with a silver lining at least, if there's a scrappage scheme?

Its Consumer confidence/worry that will bring on the Bang. Regarding the scrappage scheme, if you remember the last one it was Voluntary , this one If it happens (and not just a ban) in certain circumstances ,Will be Compulsory. This time the situation is very serious ,not just the Government throwing money at the car Industry . You could in fact just get Scrappage value for your vehicle.

I'm inclined to say 'Dont panic Mr Mainwaring'. Have to admit personally that having had nearly 11 years great adventures for an initial outlay of £3700, if the very worst happened I'd still consider I'd had a good run for my money compared to any other vehicle I've owned. Hopefully though, a sense of proportion will be maintained over the diesel issue.

Yes you have had a good run for you money , basically you have nothing to Loose , it the poor Bugger that has recently paid many thousands for their vehicle that I feel sorry for.
