Whistling problem ?

Hi
Bongo has developed as whistling / churping noise from the engine
Front right hand side of engine
About under drivers left knee when driving
The whistle/ churping / fluttering is Rev related
Starts at about 2000 revs upto about 3000
Bad when cold
Noise stops when engine warm
Does it if in or out of gear
Any ideas pls

Don't suppose it could be sheared exhaust stud?

That's what I thought by the noise
But exhaust is on the left and no soot markings
Defo from front right of engine

Idle wheel,is that a sprung tensioner, belt slip,air intake duct loose?

Doesn't sound like a slipping belt
More a rotational whistle with a high pitched regular screech
A whistle with a chirp Rev related
And goes when engine warmed up

I wonder if its the idler wheel bearing going dry lubing up when warm?
You could give the belt a squirt of soapy water when running that would eliminate a slipping belt.

I'm know what I will be doing this weekend
Could be a bearing in a pully wheel or something
Definitely sounds like it's made by something spinning
Sounds like a turbo whistle with an impeller chafing
Had a quick look earlier
No soot around exhaust studs
Deffo not turbo
Only sounds at mid range revs
Been getting worst last couple of days
Will have to have a look at weekend was going to do the oil and filter then

It could be either the head gasket or inlet manifold, with the leak sealing up as everything expands.

it may have a leak tell tale underneath, make sure you check the hole in the casting at the 6 o clock position.

I'm thinking water pump
If I've got to dump the water I'm going to do the rad aswell
Should do the stat and belts as I've got them off I suppose

...and check condition of metal pipe to rear heater whilst at it?

if you lift the passy seat you can get a listening rod ( an old wooden handled screwdriver works well with a long shaft) put the blade of the screwdriver carefully on the case of the water pump then put your ear on the wooden handle then run your engine, you should hear the bearing.
BE CAREFUL IF YOU HAVE LONG HAIR LIKE MINE IN THE PHOTO NEAR THE SPINNING BELTS.

It would probably be quicker to slip the belts off and run the engine, you can inspect the idler /jp bearings/belts /crankshaft HD and water pump at the same time.

Cheers guys
Just been out in it again
Real loud now
Had another look love working on cars in torch light
This time it's sounds from exhaust
Stripped heat shield off and no number 1 stud / bolt
no soot
But burns me fingers when reved
The other day it was deffo louder on left
But looks to be loads in the way to get a drill into that bugger
It's the 1st lower exhaust manifold bolt head gone appears to be snapped flush with engine none in the exhaust manifold
Looks like alternator got to come off and is there some water pipes in the way aswell ( Am i gonna have to drain the water )
Any one done this job
I know it's a common one
How bad is it to do
And thanks again for all the help
At least I know what it is (now carnt sit still untill I know)
Now to plan the weekend attack of the beast
And yes I do have long hair NB dredds down to me belt
