Reverse light/buzzer intermittent

Hi folks,
My reverse selector works fine, has never given any issues with selecting gears etc.
BUT
I do have to wiggle the stick to get the reverse light/buzzer to go. A bit of a pain.
Can anybody tell me where the switch is for this? I couldn't see it in the gearstick housing when i had that apart, so wondered where it is. I'm sure it'll end up being an obscure sender on the gearbox that costs a gazillion pounds to replace!
It is an auto btw

Thanks in advance!

Hmmm. Turns out that one was a manual box. Will switch position be similar on the autobox?

Has this problem just occurred after you fitted the reversing camera?

Good Luck.

The signal comes direct from the gear selection lever, does the Reverse light on the dashboard (older vehicles don't have them) come on without the light/sounder operating ?

Nope, it has done it the whole time i have had it.

I have a '95, so no indicator on the dashboard.

I have no idea where the signal wire is then, i have taken th stick apart a few times to find a wire, but all i can see is the one attached to the hold button, no other wire is evident. That's why i wondered if it was selected via the gearbox.
I can't click the link on my phone, will have a look on the computer later though.

The reversing light switch is P&P of the Inhibitor switch on the side of the gear box, but I would imagine that If your reversing camera and reversing lights are behaving as they should I would probably have a look at the wiring /connector plug on the buzzer/bleeper Unit.

No, it's the whole lot: reverse light, camera and buzzer.
So, possibly looking at inhibitor switch? As i stated, if i give the stick a wiggle, it works. So a dodgy connector somewhere.

Yes in that case I would look for bad connections/brittle wiring , adjustment , at the Inhibitor mechanism.

Aye up,
Finally had a chance to get a look at the inhibitor, bit of a faff to get it off, but i did. (Pardon!)

Dismantled it, put some contact cleaner on the contacts and sanded them down.

It now works a treat, hoorah! Which is nice as i assume there was some voltage drop as the reversing camera was always a hit squiffy. Now it pops up and works a charm.
Thanks again!

I wonder if I could hijack this old post to ask a question? I've recently had a lot of bodywork done on the bongo as part of the final parts of its restoration. with the paintwork all shiny and mechanics all A ok it was time to let the wife drive it for the first time. I guess it was my fault for not explaining the many intricacies of the bongo but whilst I popped into a shop for some picnic supplies the wife who was driving at the time thought she'd turn it round ready for our big day out. she put it into reverse and assuming it was similar to her car which has reversing censors reversed back slowly expecting the bleep she was hearing to signify if anything was near. eventually the GPO box behind her did become near and she hit it! New paintwork and new wing not so pretty now. :( . so to the question is there a way of stopping the buzzer from sounding when in reverse whilst still maintaining all its other bleeping functions lights etc? I am awaiting the arrival of a reversing censor. thanks in anticipation as always.

Only by cutting the wire or disconnecting the single pin to the Sound Warning System module. The gear selector sends a +12v when in reverse, there is no individual connector you can break.
The wire is the Red/Yellow on the "F" pin of the module, easiest would be to release the single pin and pull it out of the shell to disconnect it. But tampering with safety features and not warning your insurance company runs the risk that your insurance is invalid of course.

Thanks for that Geoff. i will be replacing it with reversing censors which will give a better indication than is currently the case so I would have thought that would be ok. probably what I will do is install the censor first to see if it is loud enough to override the current buzzer and is so maybe I'll be able to leave it along and have both. The wife won't be driving much but I can understand her confusion and assumption, my bad. thanks as always for your help

Buzzer saved me backing into my wall yesterday, thought it was in drive, just before I pushed the accelerator the buzzer noise dawned on me; not sure what planet I was on.
