Other than replacing the Japanese stereo, this is my first mod.

Made it this week, my first attempt so not perfect...

Bought my Bongo a couple of months ago and slowly getting it up together how I'd like it. A couple of mods rather than real proper pimping. 17" alloys with 225/55 tyres, actually Hyundai with ebay Mazda centres. And the BMW clock mod for the dash, with a sportyish steering wheel.

We bought our Bongo back in March and I discovered soon after to my great surprise that tinkering with it in between trips and making it your own is (almost) as much fun as going away for a trip. I've already added rear parking sensors, upgraded the speakers, added a DAB radio and aerial, fitted a Willinton kit to run stereo and blinds off the leisure battery.

Lots more planned, but my favourite upgrade so far is this:

Image

Meter purchased off eBay with a shunt for under fifteen quid, tells me the charge in the leisure battery and current being drawn. Flick of a switch (just visible at the top of the pic) and it I can see the charge being sent back into the battery by my (also just added) 100w solar panel or engine while running.

Doesn't take much to make me happy!

Remember you'll need a shunt to match the ammeter. I got one of these:

Right! I've been hard at work, and I'm very pleased with the results, so I thought I'd post some photos of my latest mods

The total list so far includes:

Exterior:-
- RX8 alloys with 225/55/R18 tyres (about 7% bigger than the normal tyres)
- Undersealing

Interior:-
- JBL GT6-6C component speakers in the front (with a homemade -6dB L-pad on the tweeters, as they're too loud otherwise)
- Infinity 12" 300W rms subwoofer in a custom-made 60L twin ported enclosure that fits under the bed.
- Sentry safe, also under the bed (big enough for laptops)
- 300W inverter
- automatic inverter switching circuit
- Infinity 652.9 coaxial speakers in the back
- Sony CTX GT550UI stereo
- dual 12 Volt sockets in the back and in the roof, wired to the PMS aux circuit.
- Screen bracket between the driver and passenger seats with a 24" 1080p screen.
- fire extinguisher

Here's a few pictures:

Image

The screen folds down and is great for watching films in the back!

Image

This is the circuit for the automatic inverter switching.

Image

This switch remotely turns on the inverter, which is tucked away out of sight. It supplies power to the three-prong plugs at the back, and to a 4-way, which I've run through to behind the driver's seat. When mains power is plugged in from the outside the power to the plugs is switched over to the external supply, and the inverter is switched off automatically. Neat, huh?! (As you can see, I've run the battery down completely!)

Image

With these Infinities in the back, the JBLs in the front, and the Infinity sub, the sound system is sounding pretty good now!

I like this, and would like to do the same. Could you possibly explain the connections, or even a wiring diagram?

Thanks
