Bongo Fury

Evening all,

Interested in a bongo that has a 12 month MOT however 2 advisories regarding corrosion to cross member and sills.

Are these expensive repair jobs?

But how rusty / rotten is the rest of it
Look at old mot advisorys for results in the past ( you can do this on the net )

The MOT advisory describes the front cross member as holed. Going to view the vehicle this week but I just wanted to get a feel for cost before.

First Bongo so a little apprehensive about parting substantial money for something that could cost lots to repair.

My Bongo has had a new front cross member, patches on sills, welding (hidden) up behind exhaust back box, and welding in nearside rear inner arch. Total cost was probably near £1k and i'd be inclined to budget for something closer to that for getting it all sorted (though you may be lucky), and its a great feeling when it is done (though no doubt there will be more in time!)

I needed 'extensive welding' on the front cross member last year according to the MOT - took it to a bongo friendly garage who popped on a new one instead (cheaper and easier in the long run). Cost about £600ish

This could turn out to be a very expensive motor, but if it is chirpy chirpy cheep cheep it might be worth a gamble.

You don't want chirpy, chirpy, from your LCA.

Cheers for all the feedback decided against it. I felt the price tag was a little high (£6,500+) given the age (1995) mileage (120km+) and the fact the MOT history is a little scary.

You can get a fresh import for less than that

That's the route I am going to go down. Managed to source a freshly imported Freda for £5,500 (2002) 47,000km on the clock. Plus I get warranty thrown in.

Then get the fun of planning my own conversion.
