Indicator Problem

SOS call received here at Mission Control from Andy who is having problems in the south of France. He has a 1997 diesel.
His indicators have stopped working, but there is still a rapid clicking noise and the dash lights are working OK. In addition the scavenger fan light is coming on at the same time. Could this be a problem with the indicator relay? If so, is it found on the nearside by the header tank?
Or would a failed bulb or an earthing problem affect the scavenger fan light?

The Dashboard lights and the actual turn lights are both driven by the control module directly, so if the dashboard lights are working and none of the external turn lights are functioning then I would suspect an earth problem.
As to the scavenger fan, it might be linked with the above earthing problem, otherwise no obvious reason why it should be associated with the turn lights at all.

scavenger fan light ?????
if the front fans come on when trying to start the engine it could be a flat starter battery, or bad connection.

A small horizontal window to allow daylight onto the scavenger fan.
OK, coat coming.

Back to reality, lads. Text update from Andy last night (he can read the Forum but can't log in):
Local garage have diagnosed it as a relay problem. Replacement on its way.
But this received this morning:
Cabin light and sliding door fuses have now blown! If the problem is a bad earth, where should I look?

Fuses don't blow due to a poor earth! A fuse blowing means excess current to earth which normally means a short somewhere. This vehicle needs a close inspection as there are too many seemingly related problems with lots of unrelated circuits. My suspicion would be that someone has been working on the vehicle and done something weird.
Just re-read the original problem - there isn't a scavanger fan light as such its the glowplug light flashing with the ECU indicating a problem, the User Manual is a bit simplistic in its explanation of what a flashing glowplug light means.

you may find that the relay shorting out is the only problem, the flashing light is showing a charging short/fault on the circuit, depending on where and how its shorting could give any number of weird faults on different circuits.
