Afternoon All,

We are currently considering buying a Bongo for a family van. Me my partner and 5 year old.

Can anyone advise an average insurance price for converted , unconverted garage kept 33 and 32 year old drivers.

Also is their any meets round the midlands where we could come and meet people and ask questions?

Welcome to BF. :D

Its impossible for us to give insurance quotes as there are too many variables, but converted seems to be ususaly a bit cheaper than 8 seats. Worth contacting the brokers who advertise on here, and bear in mind that local firms may not insure grey imports or give very high quotes. Worth shopping around.

A quick look on the 'Fancy Meeting Up' section reveals Eastnor Castle, in September, and Peak District, October.

The big central meet is at Stourport but not until next June.

We'll be at Eastnor so do feel free to pop in and see us, but bear in mind lots of peeps are out for the day from about 10.30/11.00.

Alright, we walk to the pub. :D

You would, of course, be welcome to join us for that, but we do get people show up lunch time and wonder why there's few on site. :?

As Bob says, impossible to say as there are so many variables however as a line in the sand, private driveway, unconverted P plate with a 36 and 40 yo costs us something like £300 from memory.

Could you have it added to your existing policy?
Admiral do a multi car policy not sure of cost though and there are specialist insurers who do limited mileage policies that offer a saving.

I did a compare the market comparison on my bongo I was getting quotes around £500.
I then tried a company that specialises in Japanese imports and got it for around £300.

Converted is almost always cheaper than unconverted, all else being equal. Companies have their own definition of converted and not all require it to be registered as a camper.

A converted van allows you to pick from the Bongo campervan specialists as well as other campervan specialists (Camping and Caravan club often comes up favourably on here, making membership worthwhile, but there are plenty others)

For an unconverted van, I found Bongo and campervan advertisers around here very expensive or unable to insure. Instead the sort of advice offered by Bongolia and Syner above applies. My Bongo was an additional vehicle, not replacing an existing vehicle, and insurers used this as a reason not to take into account my NCD, so by adding it to a multicar with limited mileage I got other discounts instead which helped to lessen the shock in the first year.
