I have a problem with my roof. It was starting to rise fine but just not quite finishing the move and so the beeping would not stop. Bringing it straight back at that point was possible but once the engine was turned off it would neither raise or lower unless I 'rested' the vehicle, released and then re-engaged the handbrake and which point the the roof would then finish opening and could be closed in the usual way.

This fix only worked a few times though before the roof got stuck in the 'almost open' position and RAC had to externally power the motors to bring it down.

So the issue seems to be with the roof not quite finishing the opening move. It this likely to be a motor or an electrics / micro switch problem?

Any thoughts would be gratefully received

I think the motors can get a little 'Tired' with age.

The easy fix is stand in the back as you raise the roof and just 'Help' it a little as it gets near the top of its travel.

When you say 'Engine off' did you leave the key in the Acc position? It won't work if turned fully off.

A search will reveal posts on replacing the motors, but I don't think its come to that yet.

The first thing that gets tired are the two gas struts that help balance the weight, but before you change them trying giving the chrome sections a good clean and polish, they don't need any lubrication as such there is oil inside the other half which keeps the seals in condition, but cleaning and polishing the chrome makes a difference! After that its change clean the motors up there is a Fact sheet on doing this (need to be a Club Member) and then consider changing the gas struts this company do replacements http://www.sgs-engineering.com/car-boot ... roof-strut

It might be worth checking that someone has not tried to grease the runners with standard grease. This turns in to a sticky / dirt attracting "glue". I cleaned mine out and it's much better to raise now but I will give the motors a clean at some weather dependent point in the near future.
