car park height restriction

Hi All,

Got caught yesterday by a particularly annoying low barrier at a car park I had used in my Bongo before - but via another entrance under which I had several inches to spare.
Both barriers looked the same height, but the one I drove under yesterday was obviously a few inches shorter. It was on level ground so not a slope problem.

I managed to scrape a part of the roof - yes my bad for not checking , but did notice that neither barrier displayed a height restriction. It was a private owner Local Parking Security Ltd.
Does anyone know what the rules are ?

regards
Not so Mellow :-)

Your on Private Property so no rules apply!
Other than your own to Always check when going near any barrier, somebody may have re-tarmacked the road and raised it two inches since your last visit!

Sadly I think this is down to 'Look where you're going'.

If it was marked as 7' and turned out to be 6'6" you might have an argument, but no sign means make sure you'll fit. :(

It is also not advisable (in this case) to contact the owner of the cars park/barrier owing to the fact that they might decide to charge you with damage to their property.

Good Luck.

Appreciate the reminder, it can cause a problem or 2 even locally in car parks etc. Especially for the AFT owners.

We were recently in the Exeter area and wanted to visit the city. We thought we would use the Park and Ride, an ideal solution when you do not know a city but, it had a 2.2M height restriction. As Brian (our Bongo) has an AFT, he would not fit under. The other P&R was full and other city car parks had the same restriction. :x We gave up in the end. There was a coach park we could have used but, it was too far out for my wife to walk into town. So frustrating!

AFT Bongo is 2.1m/6'10" so you should have been ok.

Not if you have a roof rack ....... we used to get under 2.1m but no chance with rack in place, I haven't measure ours yet but I would guess it would be tight for 2.2m
