Removing AFT

Hey guys,
I took Bongo in for full respray quote today. The chap at the garage said it would be best to remove the AFT in order to paint it. Does anyone know how difficult it is to temporarily remove the roof? I would rather not have remove it tbh :S
Thanks as always
Steve

Its a big job as it's heavy. Also, i'd want to be confident that whoever did it knew how to do it properly. I was told the same by a bodywork shop - their main concern seemed to be removal and refitting of the gasket strip due to insufficient clearance at rear of AFT. But me and mechanic managed it fine. And it is possible to loosen hinge bolts to improve clearance anyway i believe. I'm pretty sure DaveBlueOzzie and crew (now all sold up and left the forum) did his DIY in situ and got a good result. I wonder if reason they want it off is so sprayers can work more easily on it. I can understand that but surely there's a workaround? Alternative interesting finishes have been posted about on here, and i wonder if vinyl wrap might work well on an AFT?

Cheers Mike as always.
That's the reason, they thought they would need the roof off in order for sprayers to work more easily. Seems like a lot of work just for that! Regarding the alternative finishes that have been mentioned, is it just vinyl wrap or have you heard of anything else? Looked into vinyl wrap and not so keen.

P.S. Will pass on your info to the garage.

Hmmm, got me thinking, maybe I could just get someone else to vinyl wrap the roof

You'd think vinyl wrapping might be simpler than spraying, if roof is staying on. The other finish was a roll on stipple effect latex paint or summat - you'd need to have a search but it was quite smart.
