Belts on the 2 Litre

On the 2 litre petrol Bongo, is the Power Assisted Steering pump driven by the Alternator belt? And is the waterpump driven by the timing belt? Or have I got this the wrong way round?

We have a Bongonaut broken down in the West of Ireland. There was a burning smell, the steering went stiff, and local garage has said that the tensioner is f.u.c.t. But he wasn't sure which tensioner it is.

According to this drawing:
http://lushprojects.com/bongopartsmk2/c ... o=.html#11

18-381L drives alternator & power steering
18-381K drives aircon

Both tensioner pulleys seem to be 15-940.
Hope this helps

Cheers Geoff. Sound like the Alt Belt tensioner has gone, which lead to a steering pump failure. We will send the necessary. The joys of going on holiday to County Mayo! At least it wasn't raining........

Geoff? Must be Gaelic for Chris

Hope they get it sorted. On the 2.5td there are twin alternator belts and one aircon belt. Assume 2 litre is the same?

Or is it Murphy's Guinless typing and talking

Good point about the number of belts .... thinking aloud, hopefully allowed:

it is drawn with double lines, suggesting double belts, although could be just to distinguish it from the other belt
If it was double belts the tensioner pulleys would be different, but both 15-940
Alternator pulley looks like it is for a single belt

So I'd bet on it being a single belt (don't think it is driving a water pump like the diesel)
Leaving it to somebody what knows
... and the garage can tell quick enough by looking.
