Bongo Fury

Hello folks, my central locking is playing up.
The drivers door, which is activated with a key, locks all doors. No adaptions, fobs or keys working doors.
The central locking won`t work, have to lock manually from inside or with the key one by one.
However, it will open the doors, odd.
Is the mechanism in the drivers door, think it must be? Wonder which type of component activates the central locking, if I take off the door panel ?????
One post on bongo tech said there was a wee box under glove box which had a fuse in for door. NAAAAY, on my bongo no such thing.....
Any ideas anyone. Or has anyone had the same problem ?????

I have a similar problem. While the original remote unlocks the doors OK it is very hit or miss whether it locks them or not. The only time I can be sure of it working first time is after a long run or if I've had the battery on charge. I'm sure it must be to do with the charge in the battery. Perhaps over the years, the actuator has got a bit gummed up and needs a bit more power to work it. Just a thought.

This is a very common fault (ie lots of,Bongos suffer from it rather than being a 'Down Market' sort of problem).

Its nearly always the wiring loom where it passes from the A pillar into the driver's door. Regular movement causes the wire to work harden and break, often working intermitently for a while.

If you strip back the outer insulation you can generaly see the broken wire, or a little gentle bending will reveal it.

Easy fix is strip back to good wire and solder in a short length to re-join. Insulate with heat shrink or similar.

A search will reveal loads on this and new looms are available but not cheap.

You don't need to remove the door panel.

Just open the door and look in the gap at the front for a wiring loom.

Ah yes, just done it and sure enough the black tape stuff covering the wires is showing the coloured wires that go thought upright. Thank you...
Can one get a replacement, it must be a wire because as I fiddle with it, somehow it connects and works, leave it alone and it fails, back to Manuel lock again. Mmmm

The wire will be broken inside the insulation.

Yes, as said you can buy a replacement loom.

Yes, and just as an after thought, does the driver side speaker run through that loom as well?
Asking because the speaker had failed as well.

Once one wire has broken, then others in the loom are likely to follow, they are all being stressed at the same time! So its not uncommon to find that several of the wires are already broken but being held in place by the insulation alone, these will eventually give and go intermittent followed by breaking entirely.

Our central locking was temperamental too. Opened up the wiring loom to find someone has been in before..having tidied up their work and secured good links with the three effected wires the central locking is now just plain broken. Any suggestions?

If it was 'temperamental' and now doesn't work at all I'd revisit the loom.

As Geoff has said on another post, disturbing it often causes more wires to fail.

Repair looms can be had, or cut back and replace all the wires.

When mine played up, I bought a new drivers side loom, and had it fitted, at great expense. The problem persisted. It turned out to be a faulty relay unit up behind the the glovebox. Got one 2nd hand from Bongospares, 5 mins to fit, and the problem vanished.

P.S. No regrets though, its *nice* to know my wiring loom will most likely outlive the Bongo
