Air pipe connector

Another post where I'm going to be vague I'm afraid! As well as doing a service at the weekend I blanked off my EGR. In doing so I found that there is a small pipe coming from high on the engine, wrapped in silver heat shield coming to a junction (a little bulb, I think it was yellow once) onto a stubby pipe going into the air intake pipe. The connector on the little bulb thing has snapped. I haven't had any running issues, so can't imagine it is every so important however I would like to replace it if anyone can tell me what it is and why I might replace it!

Look at the guides at the bottom of this page...
http://www.allansvehicleservices.co.uk/shop/
which covers all the relevant bits....I think he also sells the replacement parts.

Thanks Jimmo, it was only while doing the EGR, it isn't connected. I got the plates (and excellent instructions) from Allan.

Ah OK, I thought the broken piece might have been the One Way Valve he lists on the website.....

Oh what a dumbass!

You're quite correct, that sounds exactly like that!
Forget I ever darkened the forum with this question!

Went to replace this one valve at the weekend and made a right mess of it! The valve broke off both ends and I couldn't extract either from their respective length of tube, then worse, the connector to the air intake broke. I think the small rubber pipe is in such bad condition it needs replacing but now so does the large air intake pipe that goes round the back of the engine. I gave up at this point before I caused more damage but I haven't been able to get the pipe off whatever the cold start part is it is connected to at the top.
Funnily enough the van is running rough when cold now!
I'm going to look at whether I can repair the air intake pipe over the bank holiday weekend. Does anyone know what the small rubber pipe is and whether I can just get a length of generic pipe or if it needs to be special in any way?

the pipe is thick walled vacuum pipe so it doesnt suck flat when it get warm, any good car shop should have it or go to the scrap yard with your cutters

.
remember its all been broke before by someone else mate

read here on one way to fix it.
