VW Type 1s and 2s were only developed to a given power for the era they were introduced....and they were perfectly adequate. When tuned to the standards of today, they positively fly....and most definitely leave a Bongo standing!....but with a Type 2 there are no end of suspension mods available to make them suitable for the extra oooomph. I had my Type 2 ready for it's new engine by modifying the suspension, but never put the engine in....however, it cornered like it was on rails! I'm not sure why people compare them. VWs were undoubtedly the originals, and there have been plenty of others....ALL of which had a purpose....The only thing that makes a Bongo different is that it tends to drive more like a car!
