Bongo Fury

Hello all
My bongo failed its MOT today
It failed on Headlights.
I was told that I need new lens need both sides.
I have a 2000reg Mazda Vin SGL3 400072
I have looked on google with little job
Can anyone suggest a location for New replacement

Is it because the lenses are cloudy? They can be cleaned up using proprietary kit from a car accessory shop like Halfords. Alternatively people use a mild abrasive polish like toothpaste, brasso or rubbing compound plus elbow grease, lots of. Takes a bit of time but results are good.

I have successfully used, on my wife's car, an electric drill with various buffing pads to do some of the hard work. Just have to be very careful not to overheat the plastic lense. Avoid pressing too hard or running it dry.

I did not have an MoT failure but it was mentioned that the lights have a white dust on the inside which is affecting the brightness. Once pointed out I can see this dust but as there is no way of getting inside then not a lot I can do. I am aware that some people warm the glue holding the lens on, take it off, clean all up and then put back on again but I have not got round to looking at this yet.

On this page you will find pictures of how old Astra headlights were fiited to my Bongo in Portugal. I did this to pass the local MOT and the units were LHD ones. When we brought the Bongo back to the UK I simply bought a new set of RHD units and fitted them. No problems with UK MOT tests. I you cant solve your problems with Bongo units this could be a way forward

Hi Willum, very warm welcome to BF.

As said, if using a drill go steady so as not to melt the plastic.

The 1999 onwards headlights are a different shape to the earlier type so the Astra headlight may not be so easy to modify.

You need to establish if the problem is on the inside or outside. If the latter, then as mentioned you can get kits by 3M and Meguires that come with the bits to polish the polycarbonate to remove the damaged layer. If its on the inside then you'd be better removing them so you can see if you can get something like a soft cloth inside to clean off any film of dust that may be present.

The xenon headlamps on mine looked like they were scratched but it's just the way they tend to deteriorate with age. They buffed up fine with some polish and lambs wool wheel on an electric drill.
