Happy with my mpg

After all the posts about terrible mpg I read before I got my bongo I have been surprised by the actual mpg. I Have done 284 miles on dual carriageway in my 2.5td 4wd auto at between 60 & 70 mph and got 33.5 mpg.
I don't particularly try and drive economically but this seems the natural speed for the Bongo. I now do very little town driving so I guess this is when the mpg figures drop dramatically.

I used to commute to work across town in a home 525 petrol and in the winter the average mpg on the trip computer could go down to 14mpg!

Did you brim the tank before and after the trip to get a true reading,or is that a rough estimate of fuel used

That sounds decent for 60-70mph. Good job.

I got 10l/100km (28.25mpg) out of my first bongo tank which wasn't too bad.
I've just filled up again and my stats for the second tank are 18.9l/100km (14.95mpg) #-o

That sounds like a remarkable figure overall, and way above anything I've read for the 4WD before. =D>

Yes Mike, always been like that,, I always use the sum 7.5 mile per ltr of derv, so at minute I do 75 mile per every £10 of fuel put in, don't fully trust the fuel gauge but that sum works for me.

As a matter of interest is the EGR valve still functional or has it been blanked off .

Yes, I got rather a surprise! I've just about finished another tank there and I've got over 450km out of it (compared to about 270km out of the last one) so things appear to be back on track. I must just avoid all city driving!

Just been to Edinburgh and back, steady 60-65mph,brimmed the tank at the start of both journey's and averaged just over 34,first time I've checked the mpg in nearly 5 years of ownership and happy with that.
B.t.w.it's a 96 diesel 4wd.
