Getting knowledge together to install my Eberspacher heater under the front passenger seat in engine area. Am after a few hints and tips about duct pipe work.

- Going to have the fresh air intake in the front passengers side step.
- Warm air outlet in the sliding side door step.

The inlet and outlet sizes are 60mm but you can get piping 60 or 75mm in diameter or even bigger - what are the advantages and disadvantages of using either size at both the inlet and outlet sides? Or is it just a case of what size fits in the space the pipe is running through?

Really you need to fit the correct ducting to match the inlet and outet pipes otherwise you will need to buy or fabricate some adapters to make the larger size fit. The 60mm pipe is about as large as you would be able to use to be able to fit in the limited space available. The 75mm pipe will not bend around such tight radius as the 60mm so you'd find it harder to bend it to shape.

Generally people use the 60mm - as Simon says you then don't need the adaptors (which are fairly easy to find) and the 60mm fits in the right spaces more easily. I used 60mm and routed the hot air to the back of the engine hump and there's no issue with a lack of airflow even though the route is quite convoluted. I think with larger duct you might struggle with space and it would only make sense if you also had larger outlets which will be harder to fit into the space on the steps.

You can get stainless steel cable ties to hold the duct in place (not sure if the normal nylon ones will take the heat).

I will use 60mm ducting along with some grey 60mm vents which I found (I think these will blend in a bit better than the standard black).

I have been working with a fabricator to make me a S/S bracket to mount the heater onto using the threaded bolt holes under the passenger seat. Once he and myself are happy with the fit then I will advertise his details and price.

Hi Joe, is your insurance company charging you extra on the policy for fitting a heater of this sort and are they happy with a DIY installation. The reason I am asking is I know of a few people that have been knocked back by the insurance company as a no no.

I suppose it might depend on the Insurance Company.
