would this fit the existing sockets

Think the existing sockets changed by the years
Think there is 3 types
Have seen Simon put up a pic and dates of the belt differences

As if by magic....

Yes, at least 3 types of fittings: pre-1999, post 1999 and centre lapbelt. Always worth getting the matching receptical/socket when buying used seatbelts to ensure compatibility.

i fitted toyota lucida lap belts to the mrs.s bongo for the little uns. the lucida ones i got from a scrapper were little cassette type reels that bolted to the seat frame side, so i made strong L shaped brackets and welded to the bongo seat leg then trimmed the plastic panel. the stalks were the same length as the bongo ones so i bolted the canvass stalks to the existing mountings under the seat, this allowed for the stalks to be pushed through the seat when not in use.
the lucida seat belts were also a different colour and buckle size so would not be confused with the existing belts for forward seat position.

the beauty of these cassette type was that when the kids opened them the cassette retracted the seatbelt so the tail end did not jam up the sliding door mechanism. (you never want to get a seat belt buckle jammed in the sliding door when the soft close is trying to force it closed.)

mines in depth mate but no library pics to draw from.

Here's a picture showing similar setup where recoil belt is fitted to seat mounting bolt.

cheers simon, mine was similar though i made the cassette sit on the side of the leg rather than the rear, this helped the angle of the lap belt pull and retract.

Simon AT what point is the 2nd mounting point of the 3pt system mounted?
I can see it wrapped around a lever but where is it bolted?

That's a picture I captured a while back from an eBay listing so I'm afraid I don't have any further details. There would also need to be some form of clip or loop at the top rear of the seat by the head rest to prevent the belt sliding down the side of the seat.

When I did this a few years ago I bought a couple of bus seat belts which just looped round suitable parts of the seat frame, worked fine and never any comments during MOTs
