Lazy Rev Counter At Tickover

On occasion I notice the rev counter is a little lazy on tickover. Sometime it fails so move, sometimes is displays 200rpm or so, other times it's just fine & dandy.
Wondered is anyone else had experienced similar & what the fix was?

Doing some more research, it could be the NE sensor, especially as it's close to the fuel pump & I've recently had the pump back plate seals done.

Had this twice on BL motors, both times it was the alternator saying, "Goodbye".

It is quite squeely at the moment.

im with bob on this one but you could check the sensor mentioned. mine started acting weird so i checked and cleaned the connection, still the same so i removed the bolt and pulled it out, it was full off oil behind it, cleaned it and the socket , refit it, its been good ever since.

Popped the sensor off, there was a load of crud on it, cleaned it, sorted.

Can someone point me to the correct Lush page for the NE sensor? And what does NE stand for?

Q: My rev counter is dropping to zero intermittently. Is there a particular faulty sensor that would cause this to happen? (Iain from Maidenhead)
A: Tom replies: I had these symptoms and in my case it was a defective switch on the cambelt housing which senses the revs, it is a Mazda part, generator pulse WL0120H10B. Or there could be a loose wire/bad earth problem, check the connections behind the face, the red wire to the alternator and the sender unit from the diesel pump. (Allans Vehicle Services).
