If it's a diesel there's a sender unit front drivers side top of the engine.Try cleaning the spade connector for the wire but sometimes the rivet can work loose and you'll need a new unit.If you look at this thread.

Excellent advise from Ady aka Vanessa aka Northern Bongalow.

Whip off the spade connector and short it to earth, gauge should go to full hot (from memory).
That should tell you if its the sensor.

Just had a, look spade connector in place however the other end of the 6 inch wire is adrift with a red connector . Where does this go?
Not easy working in the street as the gas main is being replaced, lorries and holes everywhere will have another look when its quieter.

it goes over the front of the rocker cover baz, if you go to the passy side and find the alternator wiring harness, a single wire runs up towards the front of the head then jumps over to the drivers side to marry up with the end you have found.
sh&t its dark now, ------- sorry.

Thanks Ady found the wire. patched a piece in.
Ignition on, spade to earth, gauge went to hot as suggested by bob.
Put it back on and ran for 10 mins, gauge did Bog all. Its the sender you put in yonks ago was hoping it was all right as the wire was broken at a connector. The original seems quite thin .
Not been a good day for me. but there you go.

On my old blue Bongo when the temp gauge didn't work it was identified as the Thermostat stuck open.
