Can I cut out the temp gauge diode?

Hi, returning to Bongo ownership after a few years away - this is the third.
Doing the temp gauge mod this weekend. Can I just cut out the diode rather than shorting it? Cant find my soldering iron and dont want to but another. Thanks,

No you MUST short it out! Simplest is to twist the diode itself around its own leads so shorting the two together. or use an extra piece of wire to short out the two leads, if you cut the diode out then you have an OPEN circuit not a SHORT circuit the exact opposite of what is required!

All done now - quite easy and the fact sheet nice and clear. This is my third bongo and the first time I have done this - wish I had on the other two. A must!
