Bongo Fury

I have a 2.5tdi 1996 bongo. My cam belt has just been replaced also my alternator.

since the Cam-belt replacement I have had several "Noises" come from the engine department!

1. scraping sound = Mechanic said he had put a Clip on backwards -- solved
2. Jingle sound = Mechanic said it was a loose bolt!!! from my rocker cover --- solved
3. Screech from engine area that starts after 5 minutes drive lasts for may be 3-5minutes ( have to slow down) most times after we have had a wet night????

New mechanic took off fan belts (that where New) and replaced --- 2 days later same problem
Alternator failed so replaced alternator 3 days later same screech Aaaarrrr

Any body any ideas please

The only thing I have not yet done is take off the Cam belt and re-fit it
there was no noise prior to re-fitting the Cam belt.

Curious that the alternator should fail straight after new belts fitted - hope they won't overtightened.

My first thought on the screeching was loose belts (or possibly belts with incorrect v-profile though that's just a guess - where did you buy belts from?).

Where are you based, just in case there's a suitable Bongo specialist near you - overall, a quick health check/inspection sounds like it might be sensible

V belts, depending on the type of screech should be checked out. I have posted previously about noises after changing the belts. I bought cheap and they just aren't work it, get the best you can.

As a matter of interest was the cam belt tension bearing renewed/replaced.

the belts where fitted by a garage so presume correct?

The Cam belt kit came from the club with ALL the bits , You just have to take the mechanics word it is all fitted BUT he did give me the old parts.

I am in Spain and do use a Mechanic near us. He has checked the belts when he fitted the new Alternator (failed after 5 years!) YES it is a new Alternator

As this only happens when you are on the road and is irregular, He said it would be easier to find a marble!!! but he did try.............

try this mate, its easier to find if you take the belts off first.

Berti got worse so I took it my local Spanish garage.
After reading ALL your comments he quickly diagnosed the problem!
The TURBO pipe on the drivers side had been tampered with (???) and (???) had put a bolt with a washer on it, in cross threaded
this had worked itself lose and air escaped causing the high pitched scream....

The mechanic took the part off and made a larger thread. re-fitted a new bolt === NO SCREAM

Conclusion my Bongo will not be going back to the garage that fitted my cam Belt as that is the only time any one has been in that side of the engine!!!!

Glad you're sorted, there do seem to be several 'Schoolboy' errors made.

it sounds like the inlet manifold elbow. the bolts easily strip when the 2 bolts are removed, this has to be removed to remove the timing belt cover and replace the belt, dont be too hard on the garage i usually strip the threads myself, i fit larger imperial bolts with a course thread, or like your man did, drill out and tap larger.

this little chap? Easily done hahum! Nevertheless It sounds like they hoped their glitches would just go unnoticed.

. see most peeps strip em. . yes thats the chapie. pics are always better than a blurb from me.
