Bongo Fury

Hi Folks, Haven't been here for a while, so hopefully everyone is happily Bongoing! Ours has been fantastic and well maintained, but it still surprises when it gets through the MOT. Anyway...the only major issue "our Billy" has at the moment is a random surging in the gearbox. I can be happily driving along when I experience a surge in revs, but without a surge in speed...often if I take my foot off the gas, it seems to recover, but it doesn't feel happy.
My wonderful local garage gave me some Forte treatment for Auto gearboxes to see if that would do the trick, but the surge still remains. Also , I might add , at 30 mph (ish) on a slight incline, and very irregularly, the gearbox does not seem to know which gear to be in...so we get this up and down in revs which stops pretty much when I remove my foot from the gas.
I will get it seen to as soon as there are pennies in the bank, but wondered if anyone had ideas?

When was the ATF last changed and has the level been checked recently? Sometimes draining the fluid, dropping the sump, cleaning the filter and magnet, and then refilling may make an improvement.

Thanks Simon..I think this is exactly what is needed (hopefully), but will get it done by some recommended auto gearbox specialists. As a heads up, the Forte fluid did help! Dave

Bongos are now 10-20 years old .. I wonder how many owners check there fluid .. and how many Bongos still have the original factory filled fluid in ..??

nothing that hard your regular mechanic cannot handle

Me ... and the dishwasher cleaned out my auto box sump and filter ..!!

Yes, change the ATF but if this does not fix it check the Transmission Control Unit and wiring to the 'box. A dodgy connection or faulty valve solenoid can eventually toast it as I know to my considerable cost
