Bongo Fury

Is the the engine in a Maxda 626 v6 the same as the Bongo v6? and more importantly, will the plug lead set fit a Bongo v6? I have been offered a set and like to know before I take it all apart.

Doesn't appear to be the same engine, as to if it would fit you would need to know the lead lengths I guess.

The plug leads on the 626 seams a lot longer than the Bongo's ..

I used English made guaranteed for life 'pattern parts' on my V6 and they have been OK ..

I used genuine set on one of my vans & pattern parts on the other. Whilst there is a big saving to be made on the pattern parts & yes they work. On the set I got the lead diameter was a bit thicker & didn't fit into the clips that hold them in place without great force & they had made sure that the leads where only just long enough so where a very tight fit. I don't like to have cabling under stress & the insulation being compressed, so I would still personally go for the genuine article if you can stretch to the extra expense.

Go with genuine Mazda leads & the club shop is as cheap as anywhere else you may find.

Because I've always been curious about whether it is necessarily necessary to buy genuine Mazda parts, I had a quick google-around to see what was out there. Here's some stuff:

Confused I am. So, what's it to be fellas? Jeebers...

I take the view that the original Mazda parts have lasted 10+ years so there's are a reasonable chance that genuine Mazda replacements will do the same. There are plenty of examples on here where folk have saved a few pounds on drop links, ball joints, rubber dust covers, etc & then found they have failed again within a year or so. If you're keen at DIY & have time to strip down & replace cheap parts when they fail, then there could be an overall saving to be made. Personally, I'd rather spend my time driving the Bongo than fixing it .

I generally do my own servicing and being an OAP I tend to be cost conscious particularly in sourcing parts ..

The back three sparkies on my Alphard would be (to me) a full days work to change so I have had NGK dedecated LPG Iridium ones fitted ..

The six sparkies on the Bongo are childs play to change and @ £10ish for six cheapish to buy .. so I have gone for standard NGK BKR5E 1.1 plugs with a 1.0mm gap (although to the book for LPG a colder plug BKR 6E 1.1 would be better) ..

The plug leads I used are from a reputable English company who specalise in 'Classic motor' ignition components .. who I doubt would still be in business producing 'guaranteed for life' inferior / rubbish ..

If anything my blue plug leads where a touch long and care needed to neatly take up the slight surplus ..



Been on for over three trouble free years .. and at a quarter of the price of Mazdas .. they are cheap enough to change if they don't last for another fifteen ..!!

I have a set of mangacor leads fitted to my bongo the saving against genuine Mazda leads allowed me to purchase a set of iridium plugs, magnacor do leads for rally cars etc and are very good quality, I have had no issues with them since I replaced my old leads.

Did you notice that the 626 is TOTALLY different (if that is a 626 engine in the picture. The distributor is in a different place, the belts are on a different routing, and the induction piping / castings are totally different.....Errrrrr....they aren't the right plug leads!
