Bought a set of drive belts the other day for the air con and alternator. Tensioned them up and they are creeping up the sides of the pulleys and the belts are touching. When I loosen them they slip. Has anyone else had this problem?

not heard that one before.
what bongo is it, the bongo has a rubber damped crank pulley, this is a 2 piece rubber bonded affair, the rubber can come apart so you have in effect 2 pulleys flapping around.
or.
it can be difficult to see what your doing when fitting them, is it possible you have them on wrong/twisted.

I have checked them and they are correctly seated. When I installed them I noticed that they are slightly wider than the original ones at 13mm. Do you know what the correct width is?

Sounds like you have the Wrong profile belt, you are looking for a couple of these.
