Bongo Fury

Hi,

I have a 96 Bongo, and my central locking (operated with key on driver side) works on and off.
Sometimes it works for weeks in a row, sometimes it only works after closing the driver door twice.


Any views?

Agree, almost certainly where the loom passes from the A pillar into the door, driver's side.

Easy DIY fix or looms are available but not cheap.

I wonder how easy a fix it is to do the wiring: which wire is it, where is the break, are they all heading down the same road with 2+ years of door opening and closing etc. etc.

I'm tempted to treat the old girl to a new loom and have done with it, if the problem becomes more frequent.

Certainly on mine once the isulation was stripped back you could see the damaged wires.

Cut back to good inner and solder in a short new bit.

Was it easy to identify which wire to cut and where the break was? And once new section soldered in was the wire bundled bulkier and hard to get back as tidy as it was? Those are the things that make me reluctant too go down that road, even though I'm a keen DIYer

Easy to see which wires were damaged as the insulation was cracked and the copper oxidised, just keep stripping off insulation until you get 1/4" of good copper.

Repair is a bit bulkier but doesn't foul anything.

Looking at the loom today... but how do i open the fastener that straps the loom onto the door hinge?

Normal to just cut it, its that which causes a lot of the twisting to occur in only one section! YOu can always use another cable tie if you really want to afterwards.
