Bongo Fury

Just been able to replace the contacts thanks to the excellent fact sheet in the members area so all's back to normal.Got the repair kit from repairkitsuk on ebay,very fast service,ordered Weds lunchtime and kit arrived Thurs morning.Kit had plunger,contacts and very clear photo instructions.

Good fix.

Just replaced contacts on my starter too ( Bongo 1995 -Nippon Denso starter ) Easy fix (1 hr max) and superfast next day service /reasonable price from parts supplier Repairkitsuk

Great to hear from you Vanv, thought you'd sold up. I recall you being one of those who persuaded me towards Bongo ownership. No regrets on that one

I remember that I tried to get you to import one yourself, as I had done, rather than going through a dealer - it really was a doddle - but scarey at the time! I intended selling last year but when I started to write the advert I realised that I would miss the old bus and, for the money ,there is nothing to touch it. So,for now she is used every day to commute . We were in the Lake district a couple of weeks ago and are off to Crief at the weekend . I have also sorted a couple of minor niggles ( glo plugs and recently starter ) with the help of Northern Bong and she is now in fine fettle other than - - - the dreaded bodywork rust - -looking a bit like one of the deliberately 'aged' custom vans these days ! I think I will get a '20 years old' sticker made up - for the van, not me

Excellent and yes I nearly imported one through BJ4. But suddenly an already imported Grade 4 one came up on Exchange and Mart for £3700 and apart from needing a good valeting, it has gone on to serve me very well since. Like yours, there's been a bit of welding to do, and there'll be more. I also had to have new head this year (still don't know why it went), and teh roof needed new electric motors. But like you, I realise nothing else is going to give me all the Bongo does. Its SUCH a mission capable vehicle that I struggle to imagine life without it. Not a bad drive either once you get it cruising on country roads.

Useful video. The air intake assembly he had a bit of trouble with simply unclips (three clips) along with the top of the air filter housing.The front clamp, near the starter, still needs to be loosened . Saves having to separate the pipe from the air intake top

Maybe he thought it was Safer to leave the air box cover On as a protection from unwanted thing/objects dropping in unexpectedly .
