Bongo Fury

My lovely red chair has finally given up the ghost. I think it was a Dukdalf one - that the nearest I can find on T'internet. It was bought secondhand for £8 about 10 years ago and has survived me running over it with the bongo at Gairloch! It finally gave up on the last day of my Norfolk tour, which was lucky for me as I didn't have a spare chair.

Now I need to replace it. Mmmm? It must be comfortable for crocheting and suitable for sitting at a table and it must fold up 'easily' to fit in my trailer, so must be less than 106cm tall when folded. It must be extremely lightweight for carrying purposes.

Don't like the standard ones that fold into a bag, I don't think they're comfy.

Anyone got anything they don't need?

Always a pain when a faithful old bit of kit gives up the ghost.

I'll agree with you on the directors chair , Brian...we've had ours 20+ years...slight wear on one...they were pricey then, but compared to the fold-in-a-bag chairs...well, they last a year or two!....No contest , as they say!

Thanks for you suggestions Brian. I would prefer a chair with a headrest than a directors chair - I've got 4 of these at home! Albeit cheap ones. As for a moonchair, I find them too bulky when open, and again no real headres unless you lie right back, not too good for crocheting. Always god to hear of people's ideas on comfort though.

I'm off to a local caravan equipment dealer shop today to see what I can find, and then a boot sale tomorrow morning - you never know!

Jilly, I feel your pain. Our chairs went to heaven not long after the Pewsey meet! It seemed very difficult to find "traditional" style folding chairs which we like and the ones we saw in supermarkets etc were poor quality, unlikely to last more than a year.

We ended up in GO Outdoors who had a big collection and you can try them out. I think you will be looking at an aluminium frame, so prepare yourself for the price.

Thanks for your response. The Go Outdoors in Swindon had a poor display of decent chairs (in my view). I ended up at Greatfield, trying out theirs and then ordering a Lafuma on Amazon. Hefty price but extremely light and very comfy.

A good make, but you pay for what you get! Happy relaxing!

Haven't tested it properly yet. Bought a wide one with crocheting in mind
