Soft close - lights are on but nobody's home!

Hi there,

96 Freda/Bongo

Sliding door previously worked no probs, made that whirry-clicky sound when closing the last couple of mm and locked fine using central locking or key

Recently it has stopped locking, yet still makes the noise. Sometimes it continues to make the noise even after getting in, turning on and driving off down the road. Its like its trying to complete the closing procedure buts something is not quite clicking into place. Sometimes, when parking and locking using central locking, the sliding door wont lock.

Not sure if its the electrics that are the problem (locking via central locking/drivers door securely locks the passenger door and boot, just not the slide door) and it makes the right kind of noises so something is definitely happening in there. Occasionally it will lock fine, but more often than not it simply wont, and I haven't found any pattern to what i'm doing that makes it lock on some occassions but not on others.

Any advice gratefully received

Thanks

There are 5 contacts on the door panel the unsprung pair at the bottom are the central locking, these only make contact when the door is closed, hence the intermittent working. Sounds like the door mech. needs some attention to ensure full closing.

ah ok, that does make sense then.

so its not really the central locking that is the problem/faulty, if I can fix the door closing mechanism the central locking will most likley start doing its job again!

Thanks for the advice
