Noise from mid to rear

My Bongo is so very needy.
Only just replaced all the front end suspension, brakes & steering.
Now developed a knocking noise from the rear.
This only appears when not under load.
I removed the rear prop to check that again, noise still there.
There is certainly a lot of back lash in the rear diff and transfer box.
However, the noise goes away under braking.
Guess the Bongo will be up in the air again to investigate and repair.

I know. To be expected I guess as these old girls age. To reduce the to and fro to Adrian my mechanic I keeping thinking I should identify various likely upcoming issues and have work done ahead of trouble appearing but as he says - if you do that it'll only be something else that goes wrong. So far at least, I've never had anything cause me to break down on the road in nearly 9 years. Even the failed alternator didn't stop my diesel doing a 150 mile round trip by keeping use of electrical devices to a minimum and topping up battery charge at the camp site (though I doubt it needed it and I could just as easily have used the leisure battery to do the job if necessary).
