Strange Engine Noise

Query from a member in Salisbury.
Our 1997 4WD diesel Bongo has developed a loud and worrying noise from the engine. It's not a squealing noise, it's not a box-full-of-nails noise. It can only be described as a "Rattly Bell" which goes faster when the engine is revved. Any ideas?

Light rattle could be imminent rocker arm /post failure...personal experience.
