Bongo Fury

Hi

I recently acquired a 1997 Turbo Diesel Bongo, all seems to be fine apart from the inevitable rust. So i have been stripping it down over the last couple of days, bumpers off, new front cross member etc.

The advice i am after concerns the rear quarter (area behind the rear bumper) which is rusted through, both sides are rotten. I have tried to source replacement panels, but cannot seems to locate any. It looks as though this area is pretty vulnerable to corrosion so i am surprised that there is not an aftermarket part? Incidentally the wheel arches are pretty good, just the area next to them is bad.
Also, there seems to be a rectangular plastic insert that sits in the middle of this panel, is this a vent of some sort? and if so is it really needed? As worst case scenario i may have plate the whole area.

So if anybody can chip in with any good advice and save me from trying to fabricate the near impossible, i would be greatly appreciative.

Hi Mike, i am in Falmouth, Cornwall , i will certainly ask....i have a funny feeling though, i may have to drag out the welding gear?

I asked a similar question the other day actually about the plastic thing...It's apparently a one way vent (on both sides) to prevent pressure building up in the van when the blowers or on/windows open....

Have you tried contacting Allans in Plymouth to see if they can suggest anyone. Allans are the tops with Bongos and very approachable (Alan owns a Bongo himself).
