Good looking job and all done when you couldn't have been out using it due to Covid19 but now looks like it'll be ready for when lockdown eases and the summer starts. Result!

Can't remember what model it is and what you've done but make sure any metal pipes like the ones to rear heater and autobox<->cooler are sorted as well as they go at a similar age to the bodywork. Also the main radiator is probably due to start leaking at around 20yrs of age. Don't want ot get the bodywork all sorted then have mechanical issues on 1st outing  #-o

No rear heater or troublesome extra pipe work just extra storage once I’ve lined it out

Not a bad plan. Interesting thought occurs that the space vacated by the rear heater unit might even house a diesel heater, maybe even retaining the ducting and outlet controls? Or would they not be up to the heat from a diesel heater

Started stripping off the side skirts of the donor bongo it’s a bit of a warning for people buying bongos with these on outwardly it looked like it would need new arches but once they were off you could see the carnage you obviously can’t take them of to look if you’re buying one but I think a rule of thumb would be if it needs wheel arch repair it’s almost a certainty it will need sill work

Also while reassembling the van I noticed how useless the plastic shield os rear covering filler tube really is all the dirt gets propelled over the top of the cover and gets lodged behind it then keeps all the wet there everytime it rains totally useless would probably be better of without it so am going to modify the spare one I have to close of the entry point at the top

He also removed all the old cracked decals and sprayed the sides of the aft where the decals were removed. After a machine polish I have a great looking van. You can find the contact details for the Bongo Body shop in the classified section of this site. He was also fixing up some very rotten arches for another customer when I collected my van. Would definitely recommend.
I'm Sheffield-based. Anyone used "Dave" recently? Still recommended or better alternatives? I've got smalll, surface-level rust patches at the corners of the wheel arches that I'd like looking at before the rot spreads! TVM in advance.

Dave is very busy and you have to book weeks in advance. Have you tried this firm on Abbeydale Road? They have been recommended.

Thanks Ian. Just to let people know, I've recently taken on a very experienced Bodyman/painter to increase capacity but still keep the high standards. Nothing I hate more than having people waiting. 🚐

Hello all,

New here, please be kind!

Although I've been a long time Bongo admirer, I only yesterday joined the ownership club, picking up a nice 2002 2.5l V6 example from Winchester.
Inevitably, it has some rust issues despite being undersealed by JAL when it was imported in 2011.

The most recent MOT (October 2022) gave an advisory of rust on the offside front section of the chassis (pictured). Does anyone have any experience with this particular corrosion issue, have any suggestions as to the repair costs and where the best place near to Banbury is to take it to have the work done?

Cheers! Matt. Image

We don't have any Bongo specific rust experts in your area I'm afraid. But you could always try the national Rustmaster chain (who are very good) or contact a local car restoration society as they will do this kind of stuff all the time.
