Fitting rear ladder

Post by Snail921 » Sun May 03, 2015 2:48 pm

I've just fitted a stainless ladder to the tailgate. Many thanks for the advice here about removing the spoiler BTW. I'll need to trim the spoiler a bit to refit but that's no problem, When I picked up the ladder I was struck by it's weight and wondered about the ability of the gas struts to cope. I was right, they won't. Anyone else had this and if so any remedies?
Regards,
Brian.

If you weigh the door (half way up) then give the details to a supplier they should be able to supply uprated struts.

Or fit some sort of locking sleeves to the struts.

Good Luck.

Someone on here put 2 bits of different sized plumbing waste pipe over the struts
And used them to hold up the door
Then one went inside the other when closing
Carnt quite remember how they did it at mo

But something like
1 1/2" waste pipe cut to half length of strut
1 1/4 " waste pipe cut to half length of strut
Put both over strut ( can cut pipe length ways to save removing strut)
Fix one end of each to different ends of struts
When you open it fully they come out of each other and jam against each other holding door up
To close take weight of door and put smaller inside other and it will slide in as door closes
Gas safe heating engineer / plumber if you need any advice just shout.

Sounds like it's not a standard Terzo ladder as they are lightweight aluminium which the struts can manage and fit without any modification to the spoiler. I sometimes fit a spare wheel on mine and that does need to help for which I have a couple of pieces of plastic conduit which have a slot cut down their length to allow them to fit over the strut.

no, not a Terzo, not sure of the make but it's the same as this one. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Mazda-Bongo-F ... 4d318f601b (I didn't pay that much for it, though)
Thanks for the suggestion of the tubing, I'll give that a go

Ladder now fitted, spoiler trimmed and plastic tubing on the struts working well. All good so far.
