well ive just read through the thread about glow plugs and servicing etc etc

then I read some ones bongo starts within 1/2 a second of turning the key

ahaaa same as mine =D>

1/2 a second ? has it even done a revolution by that time ?

im on for year 9 and had the same plugs in

she still starts within that second - cold or hot

coughs a little every now and then - but a quick rev and all sorted

are all diesel bongo,s the same

ps- not rubbing it in if you have any issues etc

so how many seconds does your take to fire up ???

and mine has the twin battery set up - but only 11 volts when turning ignition on in the morning ( I think if it was just the one battery - there would be trouble ) lol

Hi,

I've got the high power cold climate starter motor on mine, but the second battery has been re-wired as a leisure battery. I wait till the plug light goes out, turn the key and fire up is almost instant.
What I have done "just in case" is to leave the original battery link lead on the vehicle, well tied up out of the way and with the clamp well insulated.

Majority of times I turn key, wait 3 seconds for glow plug light to extinguish, then turn key and it starts in 1/2 second or less. A few times this winter on real cold starts of 3 or 4C it starts as normal then idle is rough for about 1 min. I just wait if it feels like that and pull away after it has stabilized. Never not started but it is likely the glow plugs are starting their decline.

Mine starts instantly as soon as I turn key
Don't usually even wait for glow plug light to go out

If I start it straight away with out waiting for light to even light
It's still instant but chugs for a couple of secs
Usually only gets used at weekends or move parking position early in morning( to a better space)

Me too! My old SB was little and knackered. It had to start within 1/2 second because that's all the battery could do

I ignore the glow plug light, wait for the relay to click and she fires right away.

11 seconds while the glowplugs warm then flick of the key and she starts straight away.

not letting the plugs warm up on a cold is head is meant to be a no no, not good for the plug or the emissions. [-X (just saying, ain't my bus so do what you want :D )
