Hi all,
I am haveing a starting problem with my 1995 Bongo 2.5td. I recently changed over the glow plugs because the bongo was starting very slowly, not straight away so I changed the glow plugs. Whilst changing the plugs I had to replace some vaccume pipes that had gone hard broke and a small piece of fuel pipe that broken right near the pump. Tried to start the motor after but nothing. Checked the glow plugs had power and nothing. Found out the small fuse wire next the battery had burnt out so I replaced it. Glow plugs now ok but still not starting. It seems to be a fuel issue. The fuel is getting passed the fuel filter as I sucked it to check. I have now discovered that the fuel pump is not making any priming sound. what could the problem be folks. All help is well appreciated. Thanks. Rif

You got plenty of fuel in it
Think some have a manual prime button on top of fuel pump
Which you push a few times
But think most are auto prime

Try taking fuel filler cap off

You can slightly undo/ crack one of the injector pipe nuts and see if you getting fuel there

start by checking the fuses both at your right knee and under the bonnet, theres a fair chance you have popped something, maybe even taken out the glow plug relay.
on the top of the fuel pump is an electric stop, make sure its got power or it will stop the fuel entering the fuel pump,(this is how its turned off to stop the engine).

I do remember when I replaced the fuse wire from the postive terminal with a new one and turned the ign on the new one smoked and popped so I had to repair it. Before trying it again I made sure that the glow plug rail had not earthed on anything when I changed the plugs. Now the fuse wire is ok and there is power getting to the plugs there is no priming sound coming from the pump. So I will pressume that when the new preplacement fuse wire also smoked and broke that caused something else to stop the pump from priming ... just a guess !!

Not quite sure what type of priming noise you are expecting to hear from the pump. It's mechanically driven by the engine so unless the engine is turning, the pump won't be doing anything. The only significant electrical component on the pump is the fuel cut off value mentioned previously. If this fails or looses power it will cut the flow of diesel to the injectors. What you could do is the crack one of the nuts back on the injector pipe to see if to are getting any pressure there.
