Ok, so MOT indicating these have gone, and finally got around to looking:

I can feel the rubber has a split in it. Both sides are the same.

So, do I just replace the boots?

Is it these in the shop?
CV Stretch Boot Kit
Rubber boot, grease & instructions.
£14.00

Easy to do at home?

or do I need to replace the whole ball joint?

Do a search other threads where I've explained it is not economical to replace the boots - they will fail in less than a year often and it's hard work to replace them. You have to seperate the ball joint which often knackers it. You may well be better off replacing both entire wishbones at £85 each for pattern parts, or around £150 each for genuine parts.

Just find threads with people asking how to seperate the ball joints and it'll give you an idea of how tough it can be, and that you don't want to be doing it once a year on each side!

I'm guessing your mechanical skills are faily limited as you've listed the details of a CV boot kit which is a whole different thing (not being rude, honest) so I'd recommend this is not a job for you. It should take a garage an hour to replace both.
